been to all 4 cities and my favs are barcelona and venice
i love barcelona theres loads to do and see in the city and surrounding areas depending what you are into and the subway is cheap and reliable#
the bus tours are great value and you can hop on and off and you get discounts on things as well (even pizza hut) food wise theres some lovely resturants for evening but plenty of cafes plus all the usual fast food places for during the day
sights wise - the nou camp staduim and museum has to be seen if you are a football fan, mountjuice park the water fountains are amazing and not least all the guadi archtecture include la sagrada familie

venice - we only went for the day but stayed just outside lido de jeselo but the day trip into venice wasnt enough to see everything, theres the doges palace, bridge of sighs plus all the glass making places, the waterboards are great and cheap but you can splash out for the gondolas
food wise again plenty of resturants for evenings and cafes fir during the day

My OH has booked us into Thoresby Hall, Nottinghamshire next week I believe they are doing deals for 2night stays starting on a wednesday. I think it is a Warner holiday property but he booked with lastminute.com.

Rome's gorgious and there's a train station in the airport that takes you to the central train station, then you just get a taxi to your hotel (but make sure it's one of the ones on the station front and not one that says he's parked round the corner) if either of you are nervous car passengers CLOSE YOUR EYES you will get to your hotel in one piece even if it feels like you won't.

The only problem is I'd say you can't do Rome in a weekend, hubby and I went for 4 days and didn't even touch the Vatican area
