Hi,
I am looking for the best tariff for our new home. We are moving to a bigger house (5 bed/3 bath) so I don't as yet have any comparison. I am considering eOn, as been with them before and they were generally ok. However I did a save search and it suggested M&S or EDF fixed tariff. I'm a bit nervous given their customer service reviews! Anyone got any thoughts please? Whoever we choose also needs to put a new meter in for us as the old one had to be moved. I appreciate I'm clueless so any constructive advice or tips on other people's good deals for a similar property would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Sorry when I say I did a save search I mean using the cheap energy club tool on here... But I couldn't say what we spend at the mo as not in yet! The biggest thing is getting a provider that can put meter in without hassle and not charge the earth for gas and elec!0

Just to clarify...
When you say the meter has been moved and you need a new one, what exactly do you mean? The house doesn't have a meter at all or it's been moved to somewhere on the property you don't want it or something else? Is this just one of two meters?0 -
When you move in you are in a deemed contract with the existing suppliers from day one, you can't switch until you first register with them.
Just use any comp site with your postcode and estimated kWh usage to find the best tariff for your region.
Impossible to provide estimate of kWh without knowing how the property is heated and hot watered-use national averages to start with.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi, thanks so much for replies! The old meter will be relocated, and currently the gas supply to the property has been cut off (we can't move in as yet as the whole place is being renovated). So we will need a company to install a meter for us.
Sorry, I was a bit vague - I know It's currently with British gas for gas and eon for electricity but I have no idea how much energy will cost going forward. We will be installing GCH as there is none at the moment and will have a gas fire, electric cooker and 1 electric shower with the rest run off gas.
It sounds like we'll need to do a couple of months with the existing supplier from what you're saying, so probably get British gas to install the meter and see how we go for a couple of months with them and eon before we switch?0 -
I'm not sure it will matter who you are with for your bills, as I think it's the distributor that you contact to move a meter - I'm not sure though, but someone else here will be able to advise.
I've seen people be quoted anything from £500 to £1500 to move a meter, and that was only a short distance of a few metres at most.0 -
Uh-oh, really?! Ok thanks for all your replies.0

Although we did already pay to move the gas supply (pipe) so it's just installation of the meter.0
