Skips around here only seem to contain builders rubble.
However, there is a house down the lane that leaves items of furniture, lamps etc that they don't want, at the end of their drive for people to take and we picked up a lovely solid pine corner shelf which is now installed in the kitchen.0 -
My ex's dad found a set of Terry Pratchett audio books in the skip of a house he was working on, gave them to us and they were promptly Ebayed and we got £72 for them! Gave him some of the money so a good find all round!Little lady arrived 13/12/110

Just the other week, on my way to work I saw an absolutely gorgeous huge wooden cupboard in a skip, I asked the builders and they let me have it. They also have its twin coming out soon and I can have that too.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Not me, but my stepmother back in the early 80's saw a nice brass looking barley sugar twist lamp about 4 ft tall in a skip. When she got it home she gave it a good polish and was amazed at it changing colour....it is actually Sterling silver!! She has it in her lounge still to this day.0

Hi all
Found some excellent stuff back in the 80's London when they were renovating loads of houses into flats, including huge plants, 2 seater sofa, chest of drawers.
More recently I found a brand new coolbox, you have to be quick where I live though as loads of people look. I do love a good rummage in a skip.

They'd probably be outlawed & 'elf & safety would be quoted by jobsworth types. But there is always free-cycle & charity shops, and nothing to stop people putting up notices locally for free stuff to be uplifted I suppose.0

I've had a wheelbarrow, 2 x compost bins (plastic dalek type), various plant pots, a galvanised dustbin with lid... other stuff too but I can't remember at the moment0

I saw a couple of pallets outside someones house a couple of months ago that I wanted but every time I knocked on the door they were out & I didn't like to just help myself.
I went past one day & there was a van outside so very excited I thought that my winter kindling was sorted, they'd just got back from dumping them at the tip, they said I could have just helped myself. Damn my good manners.
I've never found anything in skips expect rubble.0
