My now aging desktop (approx 4 years old) has started completely freezing within 10 mins of windows loading.

It did this about a year ago and then i manged to do a factory reset on it after lots of attempts (due to process freezing) and failed methods and it was fine since then.

The problem restarted a again a week or so back. So manged to do another factory reset but this time I have not resolved the issue and still does it. I was thinking hardware issues when i searched the problem but as it is freezing within 10 mins of startup I thought I would try booting from a version of Linux I have on a CD.

Now posting this because of that and it seems fine on Lunux so thinking software issue with my windows 7?

Any ideas?

Was going to get a new desktop anyway within 12 months so between now and then if i have to I will use my Linux CD as a stopgap.

Just was wondering of peoples thoughts?

Not just an overheating problem is it?
Linux probably loads the CPU less than Windows 7, so it survives that. Check that the CPU cooling fan (if it has one) is OK. You could also try something like Core Temp on it to see if the processor is getting excessively hot.
