Parking in London

This is more of a post to vent my frustration as I'm not sure I will be able to do anything about this. I live on a road in the London borough of Wandsworth. My road is within a CPZ, permit holders and pay & display between 9:30-5:30. I live right near a tube station and a massive hospital. I pay over £100 a year for the privilege of parking outside my own house, but there is never any parking!! I'm often parking streets away or on yellow lines risking a ticket the next morning if I forget to move it! The system totally needs to change...

The problem of course is that there are too many cars on the road in London and not enough infrastructure to deal with it. Every year it's going to get worse. You live near the tube, maybe it's an opportunity to use public transport? I was in London for a few days last month and used it for what I needed to do.

Sorry but there is no easy answers in some places.

Public transport is really good in London and when I do go out socially, I find it much more convenient than driving. The problem is my job requires me to drive around a lot within/out of London. I think the problem around here is lack of parking control to protect residents that pay extortionate annual fees to park. On my road, anybody can park in controlled hours, be it residents with permits, hospital visitors/tube users who P+D or local businesses that have business permits. Out of hours, it's a complete free for all.

The problem is the local councils wanting to profit from parking as much as possible. Why not have one side of the road for residents only? Because the council loses out on P+D profits. Why not extend the CPZ and increase the hours of enforcement? Because that would send council labour spend up. Why not allow residents who live in the borough free parking outside their own homes? Again, lost revenue.
