What to take hamster to the vet in?

Unfortunately, we have found a lump on our 18 month old hammie. I will book the vet tomorrow. I've never taken him before, so what do I take him in that's secure?

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you don't have a suitable container then a clean bucket with some bedding for it to snuggle into and a tea towel over the top!

Don't go for cardboard or anything that can be chewed (quickly anyway)
Good luck, hope its nothing serious.

Is there a Pets at Home near you? If so they have small animal carriers, its useful to have one around anyway and they're not too expensive.

Small plastic box, if you don't mind cutting a hole in the lid (hot sharp knife) and covering with a bit of wire mesh if you have some laying around.

Longterm, it may be handy to pick up a small animal carrier as mentioned.

When I was a kid we took mine in her hamster ball!

Not that I'm saying you should, a pet carrier sounds like a much better choice :)

Just to say thanks very much, we did end up buying a little carrier for him as I couldn't find anything suitable in the house, unfortunately poor little guy had to be put to sleep as vet suspected it was a tumour on his liver. He really was a sweet little hammie but I'm happy we got him seen to early on.

    Thanks for the advice.
