However a frame rate of 27fps is not really good enough to play fast moving games like HL2

Given that TVs run at 24 FPS most people will have a perfectly good experience. To run Half-life 2 at high resolutions and very high texture and get the sort of frame-rates you're looking at a card in the region of 200 pounds.

Higher frame-rates are indeed better but they can be achieved in a number of ways. The difference between 800*600 and 1024*768 resolutions in marginal to be honest but the frame-rate trade-off will make a noticeable difference.

Lesser cards are cheaper, but then the experience isn't so good.

The X300SE found in these machines typically sells for about 50 pounds. So it's not that shabby.

What did you make of my screenshots?

I guess my point is that this will run games and look good, not great. But what can you expect without buying a dedicated card or a Dell XPS PC!?

Do they? Seriously doubt that. There's no doubt that they'll run, but only at low resolutions/framerates.

Anyone taking up this offer I suggest you use the Site's referral links rather than the poster's, that way the site benefits as well as you.

    just a hint-

if you have any friends/relatives in france there is a 8400 on the french site (1 - d05841) - upgrade it to a 17" tft for around £420. smaller hard drive, but the rest is standard.

The 8400 also still includes a 1 year return to base guarantee, where as the 3000 is only a 90 day guarantee

I was looking at this myself and I noticed that you have to add on a soundcard too adding another £65. I don't understand why they do the deals without such a basic thing as a soundcard. They sell it with speakers but no sound card and only 1 choice of card with this one so whats the point.

I noticed that the ftp monitors are different prices too with different deals for the same ftp which seems a bit unfair if you want to swap to ftp.

I have also been told by someone who brought this machine at christmas that with the sata hardrives you do need a floppy drive to reformat, not sure why yet but apparently thats the case. They found they couldnt reformat without the floppy drive, something to do with the drivers so they had to get one just for that purpose. So that adds another £25 unless you have a portable one, £90 extra all in all with the soundcard and floppy drive.

I've never found anything special in the dell outlet store yet either, because by the time youve added on vat and delivery costs it usually ends up the same price or even more which is disheartening unless I'm doing something wrong.

I do want to get a dell with ftp and a cdrw and dvd burner, just fed up of finding that you have to end up adding stuff on so in the end the offers arent as good as they first seem.

Im not a member of any of the point sites like rpoints ect so I'd be going directly through dell
    Thanx
