Fairly good machine but massively let down by the graphics card - don't expect to play ANY decent games with an X300SE - you'll need to spend about another £100 to get a card with sufficient power to play games like Half-Life2 or Doom3.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

Half Life and Doom play fine with this card and you also have a fantastic hard drive and great memory for games0 -
oh man, i don't understand why dell is doing these kind of deal, what's the point of a good decent pc with a 17" CRT monitor? can't they just do one with a 17" Flat panel for this price...0

Do they? Seriously doubt that. There's no doubt that they'll run, but only at low resolutions/framerates.
Anyone taking up this offer I suggest you use the Site's referral links rather than the poster's, that way the site benefits as well as you.

Throw away the monitor (or sell it for £50) and this is still a great deal0 -

If you are looking for the TFT monitor you could go for the Dimension 3000 at the same price.

However this system has only 512mb ram and inferior graphics0 -

I take it from the above you've not used this card then? Before I got my X700Pro graphica card (Sweet performance) I had the exact same x300SE card in my COmpany/HP box. It ran Doom 3 and Halflife both very well at 1024*768 with medium detail at a frame-rate average of about 27 FPS.
Turning it up to high or very high was not really that useable and texture loads times were terrible.
However this card will satisfy most users need I'm sure. Heavy gamers need heavy cards, everyone else will I'm sure be very happy.
If anyone want's I can provide some screenshots of Farcry that I kept from this card.
Check out http://farcry.with.us which is on my server here and will show you some screenshots. These shots are mixed from the two GFX cards I've owned. The outside ones are from my X700Pro card and the inside shots are from the X300SE card. To be fair though the outside ones didn't look far from what my X700 card shows. The framerate was just less.
Dre... and that's all I have to say about that.0 -
To be fair my comments weren't based on my own experience, but on reviews I have read and comments of others in PC magazines.
However a frame rate of 27fps is not really good enough to play fast moving games like HL2 - most commentators agree that you need at least 40fps to get a decent experience. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

I assume you were joking about throwing it away, but many charities, drop in centres for unemployed/homeless etc, students, or even someone starting their own business on a shoestring, would gladly take it off your hands!
