I didn't ridicule him - just pointed out how unlikely the story was, especially given that he claimed that a letting agent had been involved.

Making a first post of this type here - in this particular forum - is, in a case like this, a downright weird thing to do.

You have a housing problem so you come to a money saving site and ask for advice in a vent and warning forum?

Given the number of first time posters who do post nonsensical tales here you have to expect a little cynicism over such an unlikely story posted on such an inappropriate forum.
