I have an Acer RF711 laptop (about 3 years old) I have just come across a review for it and it mentions that it has HD+ resolution 1600 x 900 with the option of full HD 1920 x 1080. Does anyone know what this "option" means, is it an option that is built in as a setting, or an option at time of purchase.

It'll be the different screen resolutions that you could choose at the time of purchase.0

I believe that was a Samsung not an Acer......I think it had two graphics sources which would kick in automatically depending on what was required.
One was for low graphics usage (integrated graphics) and used less power, the second was a dedicated card for media usage.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

An Acer or a Samsung RF711 ?There are 10 types of people who understand binary, those that do and those that don't !0 -

I think is is just 1600x not 1920x unfortunately, the 'techdesigns' website is the only reference I can find that refers to a '1920 option', I think they just got it wrong sorryThere are 10 types of people who understand binary, those that do and those that don't !0

It's possible the laptop was available with two different panels, one 1600x900 the other 1920x1080 - if your panel is running natively at 1600x900 then that's the maximum resolution you can run the internal monitor at.
Confusingly, some laptops (Sony are bad for it) boast full HD in their specs but have a sub-1080p pabel as the full HD refers to the video output capability on the laptop.

Although they marketed it as a 3D gaming machine the screen only ever offered 1600 x 900 screen like a lot of laptops.
That said it got plenty of good reviews. The only thing I didn't like on it was the shiny screen...Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Read my other post.;)
I Did read it and it is wrong, sorry.
Your understanding of dedicated/integrated graphics solutions is basically sound with regard to one only being utilised for 3D calculations, but your belief that they may fit a 1920x screen but only run it at 1600x for 2D operation does not make the slightest sense. The optimal resolution of the panel IS its optimal resolution.
As I said, that laptop does not come with a 1920x scree as far as I can see. There are 10 types of people who understand binary, those that do and those that don't !0 -

Agreed - both the integrated and dedicated graphics card would be able to run at least up to 1920x1200 without issue.
