Inheritance and disability benefits

Good afternoon
Apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum. Hopefully someone may be able to recommend some advice for the situation my sister and I find ourselves in.
Our mother passed away at the end of the last year and did not leave a will. Under terms of probate both my sister and I will split the estate between ourselves 50/50.
My sister has severe learning disabilities and epilepsy and lives in a privately run supported living accommodation. My question relates to whether my sisters inheritance of approx £40k will need to be used to replace her benefits until it has been used up or can it be put into a trust to use as is needed.
Unfortunately my mother did not get round to setting anything up before her death which was sudden otherwise this problem would not have arisen. Any advice or pointers would be welcome.
Regards

Only benefits that are means tested will be affected by the inheritance. As far as I know, a trust should have been set up beforehand yout mums passing. DLA is not affected.
Im so sorry you lost your mum.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
