It's student finance that's chasing for repayment?

If so, get in touch with them and arrange a payment plan. They will accept £5 a month towards the overpayment and after that is arranged, they will leave you alone. If you just ignore it, they will most likely contact debt collectors in due course. If you really can't even afford £5 a month, you could potentially pay less than that, although I haven't personally tested that.

When I phoned to arrange my plan, the man I spoke to suggested that amount and I was happy to agree to it, but perhaps you could suggest even less. They will be reluctant to start legal action if you are making regular repayments even if they are small as you're likely already paying the amount a court would order you to pay.

I left my course in February 2013 and restarted the final year in September 2013. I owed them £1400 as a result. They accepted £20 per month until I graduate (which I do this month).

They asked me to call them once I'd graduated to renegotiate.

I'm unemployed at the moment, so I'll be asking them to keep it at £20 for the next 6 months.

Hopefully they agree, but so far, I've always found them to be quite understanding when talking to them via the phone. :)
