Credit check on 2nd Card holder

I have just applied for a Nationwide Credit card for myself. I wanted to add my partner as a 2nd cardholder but need to find out some answers first.
My partner has had a bad credit history in the past, if I ask for him to be added as a 2nd card holder then will the bank do some kind of credit/background checks on him. If so, then there really is no point even asking.
Many thanks

He won't be legally responsible for the account so they should not 'credit check' him in terms of looking at his credit history. They may perform an identity check on him via the credit reference agencies.
If you and your partner are financially associated on your credit files already then any potential lender you apply to, even in just your own name they would also see his credit file (but doesn't mean you would necessarily be declined).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thank you.
We have no financial association at all as the mortgage and bills etc are all in my name.
I am worried that by applying for a Credit card for my partner then it will open up the floodgates for debt collectors to chase him again even though the debts are over 6 years old.0 -
Even an identity check I guess may result in his address being confirmed to the CRAs, so in that respect could mean that debt collectors start chasing.
If by the debts being over 6years old you mean that they are statute barred then any debt collection letters he did receive could be easily dealt with by sending the template letters for statute barred debts.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
They will also check to see if he is/has been a bankrupt.0

Can I add a Q?
If you get an additional card for your partner do they now become financially connected to you. Or are they still seperate?
This is what will help to determine if to get the extra card or not.365 Day 1p challenge - £371.49 / 667.95

If you have a card - and authorise an additional cardholder - it is still your card and your debt - there is no connection. Can I add a Q?
