Garden shredder advice
Shredder advice - our old one (cutting-blade type, inherited from a neighbour) burned out last summer and I need a new one to keep the compost heap manageable.
Cheap cutting shredders:
- Argos - challenge xtreme £70
- Homebase - Powerbase impact shredder £70
- Screwfix - Titan shredder £90
Cheap screw/grind shredders:
- Homebase - Qualcast silent shredder £119
- B&Q - MacAllister quiet shredder £132
(Both 2800W, both 2 year warranty, both look superficially similar; a bit plasticky. Probably made in the same factory?)
More expensive - but quality of Bosch, ability to repair, spare parts, customer service etc etc:
- Amazon - Bosch AXT Rapid 2000 £146
- Amazon - Bosch AXT 25D quiet £280 -- sadly out of price range
1) Are the cheapy £70 ones a false economy, are they likely to burn out by next summer? (I think I already know the answer to this one)
2) Between the cheap grinders and the cheapest Bosch, what would you go for? I'd rather have the Bosch grinder, but you can't have everything!
Anyone have any experience of these? I'm tempted by the Homebase silent shredder, I figure I can always return it if it doesn't last 2 years?
