Land Registry, registering deeds, getting documents back

My wife has inherited a house from her late father,. The property is not registered with Land Registry. We do have the original title deed documents. I believe that when we request the ownership transfer we must register the property - is this corrrect? Also, our solicitor suggests that Land Registry will NOT return the original title deeds when the property is registered. My wife would like to retain these deeds as a family history document (her grandfather built the house). Does anyone know if it is true that title deeeds are NOT returned by Land Registry following registration? I had assumed that LR scan them and return them.

Yes, the property does now need to be registered.
There is a Land Registry rep on here who will hopefully come along and confirm, but I think that if you provide a certified copy (signed by a lawyer) of the document you can get the original returned.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls
