Why don't you ask the tiler to come back and finish the job? Presumably you didn't complete the payment before the job was finished?

The tiler isn't coming back. The whole project has been a bit of a saga and he's now been asked not to return so we are finishing off the last bits and pieces ourselves.

The grout used is a waterproof grout (it's for the tiles around the bath/shower). I have done quite a lot of scrubbing with various scrub brushes and a tile sponge with scourer but don't seem to be getting very far with it - I'll see if I can get some of the product mentioned by benson1980 and give that a go!

Sadly it's becoming normal to have to mop up after.

It wasn't an East European outfit was it?

    No it wasn't.

Not that I think his nationality is relevant because there are good and bad trades people from all backgrounds, but this particular trader is a local Brit (born, raised and still lives about a mile away).

I have had a few eastern Europeans do some work for me and to a man they have been brilliant.

I have been most impressed by:

    The quality of their workmanship
    Attention to detail
    Transparency of their pricing
    Timekeeping

And most people I have spoken to have similar experiences. Local builders take note.

I tiled my own bathroom, so I couldn't complain to anyone about the grout I left behind. I found it was easier to get the grout off using a flat head screw driver wrapped in a j cloth - start at the corner of the tile and work along the join, for any excess there - or start at the end of the splodge if its in the middle of the tile and worked upwards. Gently of course, cos I didn't want to have to replace any of the tiles. Mind you, that was before Xmas, and still occasionally spot the odd bit of un-removed grout here and there.
