Please cover your butts

Whilst the title is a bit of joke, it's a serious problem. Please cover your water butts up to avoid your own or others tragedy.

Whilst we were on holiday, our kitten slipped into one of ours (which was covered, but a the wood covering it had been moved to one side before we left) and drowned.

Obviously we were very distraught, but it's real issue for all wildlife. I've now rebuilt the lid on ours so it can never happen again.

    We once had put a garden pond into our rear garden, all was well until one by one Hedge Hogs walked into the water over several weeks, unable to get out died. :eek:
    I can only assume it was previously some sort of well used hedge hog trial.

    Always a good idea to have a plank or similar that allows them to get out. I did it for my fibreglass pond - but no way to do that in the water butts.
