New Job with car allowance - bad credit past!

I May have a slight issue here and wondered if somebody could help. I have just accepted a job of £35k plus £5k car allowance.
I have never had a car allowance so was unsure how it works and can see that it is different from company to company. I am hoping that I will be able to lease through them to be honest but no all offer that.
The thing is I have bad credit past and if they just give me the car allowance I’m pretty sure I won’t pass credit scores at this moment in time to lease under my name, or even get a car on finance.
What could I do?

Obviously it is going to be embarrassing explaining I have bad credit past and cant get one in my name to the company.
For company car leasing could I use a guarantor ie. My parent if need be?
What would you do in this situation?

Unless it is a condition of the role that you have anew car, you can just buy any old car and use that. The allowance is for you to spend 'as you please' but it is on the condition that you provide yourself where you need to be for work at your own cost. The car allowance scheme at my place of work simply states that the car must be befitting of your role and be in good condition (a battered old ford fiesta would not be acceptable - but a newer / tidier one would).

Ask for a copy of the car policy, this should detail what options are open to you. I have the choice of a car allowance (subject to tax and NI) or a choice of car.

I work from home and drive less than 5000 miles per year so it's cash in the bank, but if I did serious mileage I would consider the car option.

Speak with your HR person who should be able to advise.
