East Coast Trains/Northern Rail -Praise & Shame !

Options
Travelled with East Coast Trains to London to see Miss Saigon and had requested Assistance with Wheelchair passenger , all along the route from Bridlington to London via Doncaster staff were waiting with boarding ramps to wheel the o/h on & off trains using great care and making sure she was secure on the allocated seating space for her chair , plenty of smiles and cheery banter all the way EXCEPT at Doncaster on the return journey !!
Just to clarify our situation with the Boss in Wheelchair and myself with Spinal Spondoloysis plus Cataracts & Tunnel Vision means the help is vital to our travel plans , what do we get at Doncaster?
One miserable woman who`s first words were " I shouldn't be doing this `cos I`m 64 " then to me " Don't see why you cannot push her " and finally " Don't blame me if you miss your connection I cant go any faster " what a contrast to the other staff at the stations involved !
Like we said "Praise & Shame "
A Bast**d I May Be ! I Was Born One !
Whats Your Excuse ?

  • There is always one miserable sod isn't there?

When something like that happens I always try and console myself by thinking "well at least I am not married to them and have to endure them every day". Sometimes if you catch me on a 'I know I should not say this, but I am going to day' I will even make a comment like "It must be so nice to be happy in your job".

I have mobility issues and I am always amazed by some peoples' attitude. I am relatively young to have a walking stick and on first glance look fit and healthy. However, I would have thought that the walking stick might give a clue that I cannot move out of the way very easily and that I'm having a few problems walking.

We like visiting historic houses and there is a pattern to these things. We go in the house and the guide asks if I need assistance with the stairs, explains that there is a lift etc and where seating around the house is available. Great service and always warm and friendly welcome.

I can guarantee that when making my way up a staircase, holding onto the handrail and being careful not to fall someone will be heading down the stairs the opposite direction. I am not talking about frail, little old ladies who need more help standing up than I do, but fit and healthy people not even using the handrail. They get to me and stop. Give me a dirty look and wait for me to move out of the way. So I stop and look at them and smile and wait and wait and then they usually push past with a rude word as though I am being obstinate on purpose.

Again, I try and think well I might not be able to walk too great and I have a lot of pain, but at least I am happy and not THAT person. How miserable do you have to be to be annoyed at going out of your way a little bit to help someone else?

Anyway, I hope your trip out was great and you enjoyed Miss Saigon.

Northern doesn't seem to offer much between great or awful customer service

Doncaster is run by East Coast, where the OP had poor service.
