Best way to get Netflix on my TV?

I'm currently trialling Netflix and we are really enjoying the content. Easy to set up and use on Android phone, laptop, iPad2, iPhone and iPod but our Sony TV is too old (by a year!) to have inbuilt Netflix. We are currently connecting laptop to TV via an HDMI cable but this is obviously not a permanent solution.
We also have a knackered DVD player which needs replacement so we're thinking to kill 2 birds with one stone and get a DVD player with built-in Netflix. Is it possible to get a DVD recorder (or PVR?) with Netflix built-in as that would kill 3 birds as our Sky receiver has a tiny hard drive and we don't want to shell out for the bigger one. I know we couldn't record Sky programs to anything other than the Sky box but that's OK.
Alternatively, we could get a cheap DVD player as it doesn't get used much and get an Apple TV for Netflix but not sure if that would be better. We don't have Apple laptops but do have iPads and iPods. The problem is that there seem to be a few alternatives but I don't really understand enough about it to see what would be best. I would be grateful for any help.
I'm not sure if this is the best sub-forum for this question so please suggest whether I would get a better answer in another one. Thanks.

Google Chromecast for £30.
Cast Netflix to the TV from a tablet or laptop (assuming the TV has an HDMI port).
I use iPad2 with Netflix app.0 -
Chromecast does look a good cheap solution to the Netflix side of things but I would prefer something that runs directly in to the TV and doesn't rely on a phone or iPad as they won't always be around when someone wants to use them. Does that only leave the Apple TV or a DVD player?0

All these devices support Netflix

Otherwise, Apple TV or you could buy a cheap laptop or netbook to free up the existing one.0 -
+1 for the Chromecast. Your phone/tablet just acts as the remote control to select what to view and start/pause etc. Once you've started watching then you can hibernate/close the phone/tablet.
PS - at the moment buying a Chromecast gives an offer to redeem £4.99 Google Play credit. You don't have to buy it from Google to be eligible - I got my Chromecast from Amazon.0 -
I got myself a Sony Bluray player for about £80 with the app for Netflix. Sony is easy to use.
Just try and get a bluray/dvd player with inbuilt wifi, as you don't want wires all over the place.0 -
We got a Roku LT for this purpose. The Chromecast is great but the kids can't use it if my phone is elsewhere. The Roku has a remote.0

You could get yourself a cheap PS3. Then you could use Netflix and other streaming services, stream content over your wifi connection from other devices, play DVDs and Blu Rays.0

A cheap PC under the TV? The DEll 745 USFF are ideal (I use one) and are from £35 on ebay and gives you full internet access too0

Your post suggests you have "Android phone, laptop, iPad2, iPhone"
Any one of these will do. Are you really not going to have access to ANY of them when you sit down to watch?0 -
