Credit Card due date for payment

Abbey Credit card moved theirs forward.......I got charged £12 the other day and they won't let me off with it but it WAS my fault cause I was reading the statement upside down and thought I had time yet!!
Although it was my first over due payment (by 12 hrs I may add) I still have to pay....och well never mind! You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
Who did you speak to poppyolivia? If I were you I would ask to speak to a manager and explain the circumstance of your late payment and that it was your first mistake. They do have the authority to cancel the late payment and if they still refuse I would suggest you move to a more considerate company (and tell them so)
Best of luck.

Either way is the statement with the 'payment due date' not notification of a change
Depending on your filing system, failure to find a letter doesn't mean they didn't notifiy you...
As others say, phone up, speak nicely, and say its a genuine mistake/first time offence and try and get it removed..0 -
I have never claimed that they did not notify me. I have only asked why they changed the Due By date. I don't have an adequate filing system. This could be why they do it.It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0

For all of you who have been waiting with baited breath for the end of this story I have now been through every old letter and bit of paper in the house and I still cannot find the notification of the change of the Due By date from the credit card company.
Of course this does not mean they did not send it or that I did not receive it.
What it does demonstrate is that for some people, two months notice of the change means that they could possibly forget that they were ever told and maybe even have filed the letter somewhere interesting.
If any of you get such a letter then pin it to a notice board or write it on the wall or do something to remind you because if you forget you will pay a Late Payment fee as I did. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0 -
Or just check your payment due date on the statement each month?0

Yes I admit it. Sloppy habits and bad filing and certainly not so perfect that I do everything right. That's why I issued the warning to anyone else out there who like me falls into bad habits like:-
Paying off the credit card on pay day which I have done for years until the Due Date got moved.
Using pay day to trigger the payment and not reading the date from the statement (again for years).
Mislaying the letter notifying me of the change because it gave me such a long lead time and then forgetting all about it. It's still missing.
The reason I thought other people might be interested in this story was in case there are other people out there just as imperfect as me who might get caught in the same trap by a doubtful credit card company manouvre. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0 -
My barclaycard date changes randomly it seems.
April 13th
May 11th
June 5th
July 11th
August 10th
Guess which one i got caught exactly the same ending up with a 12 fine for paying a day late

Oh now let me see .....I am not good at guessing. Er ....er could it be June 5th.
It seems this is a new way of raising charges which is technically quite legal. Personally I don't find it very moral but you must admit, it is pretty neat.
If you become a creature with the bad habit of thinking your Due Date is fixed then you may get caught and they can say, "Well you were told", in most cases. Andythescientist, your case is the first where you were not notified apparently. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0 -

Do you know, I sympathise since my bank produces on line statements going upwards which is opposite to my accounting program. I think I understand perfectly. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0
