Mobile Signal Boosters such as Vodafone Sure Signal?

Hey guys,
Ever since switching to Vodafone in October 2013, I've had patchy signal at home. After multiple phone-calls to vodafone over the past few months, they've credited my account for £160. Part of this was to account for the cost of a new Vodafone Sure Signal box at home (£100 online), which I've not yet purchased.
Couple of quick questions please:
1) Is it any good?
2) Is it compatible with my Virgin Media 100MB Fibre Optic broadband (I'm using VM's superhub 2, around a few months old, am happy to do some port forwarding if needed). I've checked their website and it doesn't make it explicitly clear, and there's anecdotal evidence online only which is mixed to say the least.
3) are there any alternatives to the Sure Signal Box? Either made by 3rd parties or indeed other networks that would be compatible/better?
The way I see it I have £160 to play with and whilst I'd obviously like to save as much of that as possible, the reception in my (normal) home is so inconsistent that I'd be happy to pay a little more for something that works.
Much appreciated! :T

I know somebody who has Vodafone Sure Signal - used with Sky "upto8meg" bog-standard broadband and - it works fine.0
