Problem with BT Netprotect on dial-up

Does anyone know anything at BT Netprotect?

This is sold to BT customers who have a dial-up line for the internet - I think typically users who don't need the internet much.

I know someone who pays for this service but doesn't want the additional cost of broadband. The software is a built-in firewall, anti-virus and spam checker in one. It works well - but stops you being able to download Windows updates.

I can't find anything helpful on the BT website and their technical helpline is a premium 0870 number. I would like to get the PC updated with the latest Window updates for security reasons.

As this isn't my phone and PC with this problem, I wouldn't normally stay with the BT software and would move to some free open source solution. However, the person with the system doesn't want to do this so I'm looking for a fix to the BT issue.

Anyone else use Netprotect from BT? Do you have problems with it?
