Perhaps Natwest thought the COPD had been declared and that is why they agreed to cover initially until they found that it hadn't been?

More likely they had a panicked call from a relative advising them the policyholder was in hospital with brief details so they make medical arrangements.

The person answering the phone may not have medical experience so may not realise the existing condition could be an issue and / they may not have had access to details of the declared existing conditions as the medical lines are often run by third party companies

I have recently opened a new Nationwide account mainly for travel cover however I have run into a problem concerning cover for existing conditions.

As a result I wrote to the managing director and this morning had a phone call from one of the staff in his/her office.

During our conversation I made her aware of this thread and your concerns for your father.

I do not know if this will have any beneficial effect for you.

In what way do you think Nationwide being aware of this thread can be beneficial to the NatWest customer it discusses?

I was making the point to them that publicity of this nature is not good for their image, the general public may believe they are insured by Nationwide but of course they are not its the underwriters that the cover is with.
And if the underwriter is guilty of saying they will pay then pulling the rug its Nationwide that get the bad press not the underwriter and they could do worse than think about their image and consider another underwriter perhaps.
I feel for the OP father but of course we do not all the details of who declared what or not but what is true at the risk of repeating myself its Nationwide name in the mud.

    Not true at all

Why is Nationwide in mud in this thread?

You are the only one to bring nationwide up or have they been bought by NatWest behind our backs?

You seem to have a beef with nationwide you are trying to get publicity for- if so start your own thread and discuss it properly.

The OP was talking about Natwest not Nationwide. Nationwide are nothing to do with this!
