change of address

Hi,
Would welcome opinions please on following as I'm about to move house,

If I change my address with my bank-credit cards-phone etc will this then show on any credit search ?
Before anyone answers I will not be placing myself on the electoral roll at 2nd property,i'm not seeking any credit in the near future and for clarity a debt I have is chasing me at current 1st property so yes I admit I don't want to be traced at least for now

Yes your new address will be linked to your old one by the lender.

  • I appreciate your response but at present I have no borrowings, what I'm really trying to establish is when I change address at my bank/credit card do they then somehow update the files of credit agencies ?
THE OUTSTANDING DEBT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY CURRENT BANK OR CREDIT CARD

The company who you owe the debt to will be able to trace you at your new address once your other lenders link your new and old addresses with the CRAs.

You can run but you can't hide lol

    Not a chance.
When you update with them, they update CRAs
It may not happen straight away, but it will happen.

They will definitely update their records on your credit file with the new address, probably within a month or so of you informing them of it.

Your creditor that you are avoiding may have subscribed to a tracing service with the CRAs where they are automatically informed if any address is updated on your credit file.

Just as an aside - a big downside of avoiding letting a chasing creditor know your new address is that they may take court action without you even knowing about it as they only need to send court papers to your last known address. So you could end up with a CCJ on your credit file without having had a chance to dispute/defend etc.

If you are hiding from a debt because you can't afford the repayments then I would stop. Make an arrangement with them based on your current earnings and disposable income. Any default will be placed earlier and you won't have to worry about when they finally track you down - which it sounds like you are.
  • big thankyou to TIXY & ITSDAGAL- you've raised some very interesting points to which based on my personal circumstances there are various pro's and cons as to which way to deal with this + DINI many thanks
