Parking ticket although website says different

Afternoon,

I got a ticket today for failing to display a valid car park ticket, on the government website it says you get 30 mins free. This doesn't state that it is only before 6pm, I of course went after 6 and have just been hit with a £50 charge.

Do I have any leg to stand on? I genuinely went on the website thought brilliant half hour free that will work for what I need and went, on further inspection it does state it on the parking meters in the actual car park, I know it sounds stupid but I took the website at face value. penalty charge from the council, if it was a private one I wouldn't be as worried as I understand they are less enforceable
