Lloyds Bank systems stripping characters from my surname

My surname begins with O'

Recently i've noticed my online account is having these two characters stripped away, so my surname is now incorrect. I haven't changed my name at all, or given any notification as such.

I have a printed statement from March with the name spelled correctly, so what has happened since then? How do I get this corrected?. Is it as simple as going to a branch with my passport and debit/credit card?

Thanks,

I'd call them and ask them to fix their error.

Or you could go to a branch with ID in hand and see what they say.

It's likely to be an IT upgrade problem, so staff might not be able to fix it. Although I am sure you aren't the only customer who has the surname O', it will be to do with the systems not being able to handle the apostrophe.

Report it to head office if the staff can't fix it in the branch.
  • Interesting, I think Lloyds were doing system work at the weekend just gone.

I think it's happened with my Cheltenham & Gloucester mortgage (now Lloyds) as well. Strangely, my Halifax account seems to be ok at the moment. I wonder if the Lloyds rep here could offer any input? It must be affecting tons of irish peeps. ;-)

Computers also often can't cope with hyphens - my first married name was hyphenated, and our business name has a hyphen in it. Baffles me why a program that is meant to handle names can't cope with fairly normal spelling conventions.

Yup, looks like a classic schoolboy error with embedded apostrophes or quotes, should have been picked up in QA

I think the double-barrelled name check only works if the husband's name is first.... :D

My three year-old Lloyds account has never had my name spelled correctly, the staff don't seem able to correct it and state that it isn't a problem.

  • I went into a bank and also spoke to a girl at Lloyds Customer Services who between them seem to have put the problem right. She also said Lloyds would credit my account with £50 as compensation for stuffing up my account records. :-)
