Plumber Daily Rate?

Just wondering if anyone has a rough idea of a plumbers 'daily' rate? Based in the South and have just been quoted £500 for 2/3 late afternoons work (the plumber has said he will do it in the late afternoon and run it alongside another job he has in the area)?

Job is to plumb a mixer shower from the bath, put up plasterboard ready for tiling, plumb in the shower tray etc. I have to supply all materials and although he is supplying the trade bits like the sealant and he is charging on top for these.

It's been really hard to find a decent plumber with availability in the next month - should I just swallow the £500 for 2-3 evenings worth of work?

Whether the quote is fair or not is academic. If he is the only one offering to do it within your timescale, then that's what it will cost you. If his £500 is a fixed price for labour, then at least you won't pay any more if he over runs.

im up north too so that 'seems' expensive but you havnt described what hes doing fully. if hes an ace plumber who can work hard and fast maybe 2/3 afternoons is a slow plumbers 2/3 days the £500 is cheap.

after having trouble with a 'mate' whos a plumber and having to pay someone else (£300 for an in and out 3 peice suite) id be happy to pay decent money for a quality job.

would £350 and a leaky roof sound better?!
