Halifax Clarity

Afternoon Folks

I'm looking at applying for a Halifax Clarity card to take with me to Florida in December.

Should I apply for one now or wait until nearer the time?

Any benefits of either?

Thanks

If you wait until nearer the time, depending on how your current credit situation is, you may get a higher credit limit. That's about it though, as there's no introductory 0% on the Clarity.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

If you apply for one now:
    - you may be able to request an increased limit before you travel
    - you can earn £5/month in the meantime if you qualify (including holding a Halifax current account)
    - you'll have certainty in knowing that you have the card

If you leave it to later:
    - your starting limit may be no higher than now and may lead you to want another card as well
    - you'll not earn the £5/month
    - you may find you don't receive the card in time

More cons of waiting to apply later -
    1) something may happen to your credit worthiness for some reason which means you don't get accepted;
    2) Halifax may stop offering the card.

A pro of applying now -
    1) if you get declined now, you can have another shot in six months time perhaps.

I'd just apply now, unless there's a credit report related reason not to.
  • That was a nice, easy and painless credit card application.

I might make a purchase a month between now and December to build a good relationship with Halifax.

If they allocate a low credit limit I'd suggest using it three or four times a month for purchases and clearing the balance in full.

Then there's the chance of a credit limit increase prior to your trip overseas.

Good stuff, we did exactly the same when we went to Florida a few years back.

We've used it since then when we've gone on holiday, never gets used here in the UK.

Hi, I have a Halifax Reward Current Account, but I don't have the clarity credit card. When I signed up, it said i could sign up to the card and get £5 cashback a month when i spent over £300. However, now I can't find this anywhere and it doesn't say it on their website... so is this still the case? and is it on top of the £5 I already get from the reward account? IE. is it the £10/month reward?

Yes you get £5 for the Rewards current account if you meet the conditions and another £5 if you spend £300 on the Clarity card.
