Where is a good place to buy cotton school uniform

I am after cotton uniform for my daughter who starts in September. I am aware of all the cheap deals on uniform in supermarkets etc but I specifically want cotton stuff not polyester, viscose, teflon coated etc just 100% cotton!

Any suggestions on good places to get this (preferably all in one place) would be great.

I have found a company online called clean Slate so any reports on them from anyone who has used them would be good or any other alternatives.

apples I have been wondering the same thing. I went to Mothercare on Friday and all girls dresses felt like iorningboard covers - they can't be very comfortable. Good Luck and I will be keeping an eye on your thread. I'm sure someone will be along soon..

I checked online and both john lewis & adams who i consider to be the best schoolwear retailers dont have anything 100% cotton so i really dont know??
  • Hi there,

If you have a look on the M&S website they have "fairtrade" blouses and shirts which are cotton. They also have a cotton skirt but this is only available in black.

At the moment they are on a 3 for 2 deal...

Might be worth googling fairtrade and skirt it may come up with some colour options... as the fairtrade bit applies to the cotton (feel free to correct me if I am wrong!)

    Hope this helps someone :D

Agree, I was so shocked when I felt the ones in John lewis a few weeks back (bfore I started really looking to buy). I had an overall that felt like that when I had my Saturday job in a bakery!!

yes, your are right about M&S. Nothing instore but there is that one skirt online (very plain tho). Cotton tops (polo shirts, blouses & shirts) are pretty easy to get its the main bits I am struggling with.

Looked on your links - the spirit of nature site has the clean slate ones that I mentioned in my original post as does the ekmpowershop. I will probabaly get those but just wanted to see if there was a choice. More styles to chose from or better prices etc elsewhere.

Had a long chat with John lewis on the phone earlier. They are launching organic cotton childrenswear including some school uniform but it will only be "upper body" this year (i.e polo tops, blouses, shirts). She did say they know it's a big gap in their range and we should see all uniform pieces available in cotton within two years.

  • I think most suppliers will probably only stock a limited range until we vote with our purses (or wallets!) I have no choice in where I can buy girls uniform from  However the boy's uniform is quite standard so can buy some bits from outlets other than "the schools preferred supplier" i.e. there is only one shop .

If I find any others on my travels I will be sure to post :D

I found eczemaclothing through the National Eczema Society website, and I'm sure there used to be others advertising in their magazine. Although having skimmed the latest issue the other day I couldn't see any.
