Upgraded Phone - no txts

Hello, my partner has upgraded from iphone to a new HTC One M8. Since she has done this she has not received txts from anyone with an iPhone, I have googled this problem and there seems to be a few guides, but they don't seem to be working.
The problem is with the old iphone, all txts from iphones sent to her are going via iMessage which androids obviously dont have.
I have turned iMessage off on her old iPhone but its not making a difference, its not a massive deal because the only person we know who still has an iPhone is her dad but it would be nice to fix it just in case someone is trying to txt and she doesn't know.
We've also been to see an Apple Genius but they weren't able to help...
Any help would be appreciated...
