Advice for a new tropical tank & stand

Hi, me and my girlfriend are wanting to but a tropical fish tank, probably either between 46ltr or 64ltr, no bigger though (and hopefully no smaller)

My girlfriend has kept tropical fish before, so she already had an idea how keeping them and i am wanting to learn.

The tanks and stands we have been looking at though as a combination have all been around £150 - £200 for both, which was a little over what we was wanting to pay, i dont really want to downsize the whole tank just to fit into what we wanted to pay, which was probably around £80 - £120 for both.

Anyway, i thought i'd join here and see if anyone had any advice or know of any decent tank / stand combinations that aren't too expensive?

Also, is it important that you get the stand combination or would a similar stand from ikea to the trick, for much less?

I noticed that nearly all the stands i seen which slimmer than the actual tank with mainly just a larger top for the tank to sit on, which initially i thought seemed a little dangerous and could be asking for trouble, something that is top heavy then slimmer at the bottom, but if most of them are like that, im assuming there's a practical reason?

If anyone can give me any advice that would be great smile.gif

Thanks

James

James I see you have already asked on the Practical Fishkeeping site and had some answers ,that is the very best place to ask actually.Lots of people on there will have got similar set ups.And you will get the correct advice on everything there.

Sadly on this site, though there are a few good fishkeepers the majority are not experts on keeping fish properly and only ask here when they have a problem. Usually with goldfish, after taking advice from a pet shop, who often give about the worst advice you can get.

I agree with Froglet, this is not the best place to get the correct advice on fish care, the practical fish keeping forum is the best I have seen but there are also many other dedicated forums where you can get better advice than on a general forum.
