Are GHDs worth the money?

My trusty hair straighteners are on their last legs. Well really, they're done as they scorched my hair last time I used them.
Been thinking about buying GHDs but are they actually worth the money or am I being seduced by the label? Would a cheaper pair be just as good? I have long, incredibly thick, naturally wavy hair if anyone can recommend a good pair.

I have thick hair too. I thought I'd manage without GHDs too. Then I used a friends once. And the next day bought my own. Says it all really.
I just thought my hair was destined to be frizzy. Yes I could straighten it. But it didn't stay that way for long. Not so with GHDs. Stays put, all day. And I think they glide easier too (compared to the Toni & Guy ones I had previously).Bossymoo

They used to be good but the owner sold out to another company and now they are useless, they dont get hot enough.I bought a new pair from Amazon in January and they are rubbish.
The orginal GHD guy is now making a different brand of Hair straighteners.I try to look up the name. They are about the same price as GHD.
Ok this is his new brand as GHD got sold January 2013.

I wish i had bought them instead but my Nicky Clarke cheap hair straighteners are better than my new Ghds0 -
I have a pair of GHD's that are over 8 years old and having tried others would recommend them 100%.
I am interested about the name of the one's imho mentions though too0 -
My GHD classics have lasted about 7 years so far and are only just on the blink!0

I have long thick curly hair and GHD's are the way forward for me.
I didn't know about the sell out...0 -
I've got thick hair with kinks. Right now I've got GHDs, mine are about 6 years old. I've heard really bad things about the new ones not being so good - burning out quickly, etc. My hairdresser has switched from GHDs to herstylers. They give just as good a result as when she used GHDs, so I think when mine go, I'll be buying the herstylers.0

My GHDs are about 3 years old and I seriously couldn't live without them. I have that annoyingly wavy/frizzy haoir which doesn't seem quite enough to be curly but certaily isn't a glossy sleek wave either. The only issue I have ever had with GHDs are when my cat decided to chew the cord!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

Mrs swears by hers but only had very budget ones previously for comparison.
Her's did die within the warranty and it was an absolutely no quibble replacement within a couple of days0 -
I was researching this recently and came across SHE hair, they are the same company as GHDs and manufactured in the same factory. Turns out the man and woman who owned GHD divorced and in true style, the lady went off and made her own range! They are half the price of GHDs and do the same thing. I bought a pair and love them. Got mine for £55 on Amazon. I have no doubt they will last me ages. Heat up really quickly and my hair is not fried in the slightest."When I'm rolling in the benjamin's, I will throw you and your dog a bone, good night."0
