Im hoping on here can give me some advice on the problem Im having with my 2010 Smax.
The car is a 2010 facelift Ford Smax 2.0 ecoboost Titanium.
Just over 3 weeks ago I went to get in the car to go for a docotrs appointmet and the car would not start. I pressed the button on the dash and instead of starting it came up on the dash "engine malfunction" and the "immobilizer active"
I called the RAC out and they could not get it started either but read the fault codes and it was coming up with U100- lost comms to the PCM/ECM
The car was towed to ford and they tried to charge the battery but it was found that it wouldn't hold a charge. So the dealer replaced the battery, cleared the codes and it started up.
They then carried out a battery drain test and that come back fine.
Fast forward 3 weeks since I got it back to yesterday and we went to go for my sons birthday party and the same thing has happened again. wont start, "engine malfunction etc etc.
The car was looked at by the RAC again (different person) and he could not get it running although it ran for about 2 seconds.
SO its been towed to the same dealer again and I will speak to them tomorrow.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it?
This time the car hasn't been used since Tuesday so has been sat for 4 days.
Ive had no "low battery" warnings on the dash like previous either??
Do I have any comeback with the dealer as well because they told me it was fixed and relieved me of £230 for the privilege but obviously it wasn't fixed.
Cheers

Could be a dodgy alternator. Intermittently charging.
Interior lights/boot light staying on? Battery saver relay not kicking in?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

No interior lights staying on at all after locking the car??
Im inclined to think that its not the alternator as its not been a gradual thing, I.e no dim lights or low battery warnings?0 -
I've got a 2006 s-max and have had the same problem with the battery just randomly dieing over night. Fortunately/Unfortunately mine is under warranty. I say fortunately, because Ford take it back with no charge, but unfortunately because they keep blaming me for leaving the electrics on... which I don't.
Bought a new battery, but happened twice since. I read somewhere about a software update. You need to download a TSB document (from the smax owners club site) take it to your local ford dealer and ask them to follow the instructions.
I tried to get access to this document but it doesn't let me, but maybe you have more luck.0
