Splitting bamboo
I have just been given some nice 4ft and 5ft clumps of Fargesia murielae.
I have replanted them in a nice mix of manure and compost and watered them well.
I know that the roots really need to establish so the plant can grow and am worried that they have lot of new very springy/floppy stems which are absorbing the energy I would rather the roots got this year.
Last year I lost some P Nigra and I suspect it was because the new shoots used more energy than than the partial rootball could provide.
Whats the best course of action. I am tempted to keep some of the older stems and allow any new shoots to emergy but cut back th new floppy culms.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Whatever you do don't try snapping bamboo - I nearly had my finger off when I was a kid.0
