When are deposit/fees due?

Putting a holding fee down on Tues on a new rental place we want. The agent said there's no set fee for holding the property, just something we can arrange with them on the day, and the first months rent isnt due until the day we move in. So I just wondered when the deadline is for the rest of the deposit? Would it be two weeks time/four weeks time? I've tried looking on their website for more info but no luck. Can ring them tomorrow and find out but just wondered if anyone had any idea. Thanks.

    Until you pay a holding fee there is a risk they may let the property to someone else. So quicker you pay it.....

    Make sure to ask in what circumstances it is refundable:

    * if landlord changes his mind?
    * you fail referencing /credit checks?
    * you change your mind?

    Thanks, yes sorry maybe i didn't explain properly... The holding fee (for eg. £200) we are paying straight away, and it ensures the property is withdrawn from the market. it comes off the total deposit payable (for eg. £1000, so £800 due to pay) but by what stage does that entire amount have to be paid by? I guess its up the agent to stipulate

    If the agent said the rent is due the day you move in I would expect the security deposit (less the amount already paid) to be due at same time.

    Assuming you are in Eng/Wales, the agent or landlord should register your deposit within 30 days of payment.
