Talking of shirts, I just clicked on hot deals earlier and seen a cracking deal for shirts at TM Lewin, I bought OH two shirts, they came to 69.90, then I put a code in I got off the site and reuced it down to 43.95 (there was another code for free delivery but some muppet on their decided to phone the company and point out that they had forgotten to use the two codes, to which the advisor told them that two codes cannot be stacked and this "glitch" would be removed).Anyhoo, he's happy with this bargain
As for ironing OP, I wouldn't try to cut down on ironing shirts, they are the quickest and easiest thing to iron IMHO, I would prefer to iron 10 shirts than two pairs of jeans lol.
And sorry to get off the subject a bit, but does anyone know any half price or good deals for irons?? Mine has had its day but I don't want to spend fortunes on an iron, my budget is 25 quid so if anyone has an iron thats really good and is cheap then please share where you got it from0 -
I love ironing and do everything. I would never send any of us out without having ironed our blouses/shirts/trousers and undies etc.
Towels, sheets, quilt covers, tea towels all neatly ironed
Hubby's shirts ironed and folded as they would come out of the package.
I find it really relaxing. Ipod on so I can listen to my favourite radio programmes and I'm well away. Bliss0 -
Thank you everyone for your helpful posts0

My hubby is a sales rep and requires suit attire every day. I wash his shirts as normal, I know when the wash finishes and they we straight out the Washer, shaken and hung on hangers on the shower rail with the bathroom window open.
This works well for us and takes less ironing. XDs2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

Lots of posters have mentioned these key points -
1)Don`t overfill WM
2)Empty WM as soon as it stops.
3)Shake each shirt well.
4)hang on hangers - in open doorways/on curtain rails, etc.
One more thing that really helps - don`t scrumple the dirty shirts when they`re waiting to be washed. This is where a lot of creasing starts. I NEVER iron!0 -

wow, do wimmen not iron nowadays?
Or cook, probably microwave meals.
I've ironed my own shirts since I was in the Boys Brigade, was about 12 then.
We don't iron bedlinen, towels, underwear, socks; and by hanging up t-shirts carefully, they don't need ironing either.
Btw, we cook all meals from scratch, with DH doing all the chopping of veggies etc, as it's safer for him to do it (ie I get to keep all my fingers).
But I digress.... the one thing I would say to the OP is under no circumstances allow your OH to wear linen shirts. Even if you wash them carefully and hang them on a hanger straight away, etc, they are a total bu88er to iron.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I don't iron other people's clothes. I'll iron what I need to, but I'd expect a bloke to do his own, unless he is cleaning the toilet or something in 'exchange'. My Mum was a 60's bride, and my Dad was a very natty dresser. Loved a smart shirt and well-pressed trousers with a sharp line on the sleeves and legs. After six weeks of marriage, he took the iron away from her because she 'couldn't get it right'.
It was shortly after their 30th wedding anniversary that she admitted to me that it had taken more effort to get it wrong for those six weeks than she had expected, and she was close to giving up and doing it properly when he cracked. All with the smile of a woman whose husband had done all his own ironing for 30 years. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I usually dry them on a hanger put on an airer if indoors. I rarely get away with not being able to iron them though but they don't normally need much.
Bargainbetty, your Mum sounds very smart!0 -
Thanks again - all comments taken on board! I have seen it mentioned that it's quite good to iron shirts straight out of the wash - what are people's thoughts on that?
Regarding the division of duties comments... I had a good chuckle at themWe split things equally, I do all the washing and cooking, and DH does most of the cleaning, bins, and feeds our 4 cats (and cleans their 2 trays daily). We share the dishwasher loading/unloading and general tidying. I think it's really important both to a) share duties, bearing in mind individual time commitments e.g. work; b) ideally playing to each other's strengths! (if my DH cooked he'd be there all night, producing something not so great, whereas if I did the bins and cat jobs I'd take twice as long...)
