Which electric toothbrush?

Options
My Philips sonicare toothbrush has just died after 3 years. I paid £60 for, if I bought a manual every month for 3 years that's £12x3 =£36 so I'm not making a financial saving directly but it certainly cleans better! Maybe in the long term it's saving on dental bills!

Some of the new electric toothbrushes are £17 all the way up to £300!!!

Which one does the job and is it worth paying £50-100 when a £20 one does the same job?

No recommendations beyond checking the cost and availability of replacement brushes for whichever handle you get - they're moving more and more to a razor blade/printer ink model where the consumables are terrifyingly priced

To be honest I think which type of electric toothbrush is less important than how efficiently it is used. I had some teeth/gum issues and after having a professional clean with the hygienist she showed me how to use my toothbrush properly. She also suggested the floss which looks miniature brushes.

My next appointment with the dentist, she said I was looking after my teeth brilliantly and no further treatment/cleaning was needed.

    Hope this helps

I have had my Oral B electric toothbrush for 8 years. I replace the brush heads regularly and make a point of taking the head off after I have cleaned my teeth and giving the whole thing a wipe down and a dry off. My previous electric toothbrush died because I didn't dry it off and I guess it eventually got clogged up with gloop inside.

I also use interdental brushes instead of floss as my teeth are really close together.

I hope you haven't had the same head on it for 3 years, but you don't seem to factor in new heads into your calculations?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

We have an Oral B 5000 (I think it's called that) the whole family shares it and we all have different heads (but use supermarket brand ones). It was quite expensive but has a little computer to show you which area to brush and gives you a smiley face when done - since we bought it 5yo DD has looked after her teeth much better and 1 brush = less clutter!

Once youve had sonic you'll never go back.
I just managed to pick up an oral b sonic one at savers chemist & heads at boots.
Oral b heads are the cheapest.
Hated vitality, hated trizone, hate the little round brushes.
Happy again with my sonic :-)

My dentist recommended Oral B vitality, change heads every 3 months.

He told me off for using a sonic toothbrush (which had cost over £200) as they are not effective at cleaning. Although they feel really clean, he said the whole principle of sonic toothbrushes was wrong.

Boots sometimes have half price offers on Oral B vitality, and Amazon prices are also good.

The important thing to remember with any elec. toothbrush is to make sure you run the battery down before you recharge it, as keeping it plugged in all the time damages the battery.

Very funny but if you are really seriously considering it go for sonic rather than just electric...much better cleaning

This isn't backed up by any proper research on the subject.
