I would just like to say that my carer friend who was left £100,000 in a client's will (mentioned previously by me on this thread), had NO IDEA that she had been left anything until the deceased lady's solicitor contacted her.
As regards the OP, well yes, I'm sure his dad did want to leave him something; however, he left no will so his wife (OP's stepmother) inherited and is entitled to leave it as she pleases.
The moral is - MAKE A WILL as someone else has said. Your children will not automatically inherit anything from a step-parent(AKA HRH_MUngo)
