I can completely empathise with that. It was my experience of being in a MHU. Nine weeks as a voluntary patient ( it was that or be sectioned) without any treatment.
Didn't even care that I refused to eat or go in the common room because I didn't want to socialise or talk to anybody. I was actually self harming while there, it's amazing what you can smuggle in.
As soon as I came home started eating and haven't stopped
I have been having a bit of a crisis at the moment, think it's to do with doc trying to change meds, as Liver Function Test too high.
Now doc says he will have to refer me back to MHU if things don't improve.
So I am going to jolly well get better(gives self a kick up the backside) and try to get out of the house for a bit every day even if it's only to womble or glitch due to the amazing power of the Elite.
So Thank You All for your help.

I got one of those too...there was another but it was in pieces and I do have standards!
The lir one looks quite nice...something about edible straw and a bumble bee..
Haha, I know what you mean about standards!
I also managed to find some of the little blue boxes which have chocolate covered in hundreds and thousands. I left about 12 on the shelf as they had been opened. You don't know whose fingers have been in that box, so to speak:eek: :rotfl:0 -

It's quite upsetting and frustrating. He'll be coming home later this afternoon for a few hours so hopefully that'll cheer him up.
It's a viscous circle......being in the MHU makes him more down than he probably was before he went in there. It's really quite an awful place. People aren't really being helped in there, they're just being prevented from harming themselves.
......probably TMIbet you wished you hadn't asked now
One of the things I've found so good about the Elite since stumbling in here recently is that so many posters seem to be very supportive and genuinely interested in others... unlike in rl when I often get the impression that people who ask me how my dh is (he has had heart and lung problems) don't really want me to tell them the truth if it's bad news. It often feels like they only want to know that he is getting better so they can cross us off their list of people to enquire after although, to be fair, I think part of the problem is that when I say 'much the same' they just don't know what to say so tend to change the subject very quickly. I know they mean well but I often wish they'd not bother asking me if they don't really want to know.
Speaking personally, I think you should continue to post ALL news (ups and downs) about both your dh and how his mental health problems affect your life. That way, at least you have a place where you can express yourself honestly. My dh worked for more than 20 years in psychiatric hospitals and community mental health teams before qualifying as a psychotherapist and working in private practice. He has always said that families also need a safe place to express themselves and MHUs are the worst places to be when someone is depressed (safety issues aside). He believes what is really needed are places of 'sanctuary' where people could go to rest and recuperate in a place that is restorative, tranquil and safe. If we ever win the lottery our dream is to open somewhere like this - a small, sheltered environment just taking a few people at a time, with support for families too.
I don't want to pry Fairclaire but if your dh hasn't already had intensive (3 - 4 times per week) long term (minimum 2 years) psychotherapy it might be worth trying. It's not usually available on the NHS (as you probably know, they go for very short-term, (6 weeks) cognitive therapy which is considerably cheaper). However, there are several training organisations that offer greatly reduced fees for patients seeing an analyst in training. Training analysts in bona fide organisations have already had extensive mental health experience and are closely supervised.
For anyone who's interested, you can get information about psychotherapy here: http://www.psychoanalytic-council.org/
My dh belongs to the bpf but we get no direct or indirect benefit from you following this link:

The SAP is another bona fide organisation who operate a low fee scheme: http://www.thesap.org.uk/index.php
Sending lots of hugs to you, your dh and children too Fairclaire.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”
