Lovely to see you still posting Nenen......maybe I shouldn't bring it up as I remember that you were upset at the time but what did you eventually do about your parking ticket?

Thanks for your greeting and interest TrulyMadly :hello:

I took all the advice via links the lovely posters on this thread gave me to the parking threads on MSE and also to the parkingprankster website and decided to appeal to Parking Eye (the private firm running the car park I overstayed in). It did take some time to read through it all and get my head around the legalities (from what I have read it seems that the firms trying to impose huge charges for overstaying in private car parks are acting illegally). I almost chickened out on the basis that it was taking such a lot of time and angst (apparently these private parking firms rely on people caving in) but kind people online helped me to hold my nerve and fight the injustice.

I heard a couple of days ago that they decided to cancel the charge! :j:j:j:j:j

It's so good to hear of a dad reading to his children. There are lots of studies showing how important this is, e.g. 'Too many parents failing to read to their children' http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/7811961/Too-many-parents-failing-to-read-to-their-children.html

Just in case you'd like some recommendations for good books for children, these websites are great for ideas:

    http://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/
    http://booksforkeeps.co.uk/

Finally, when buying books, I always use http://www.bookbutler.co.uk/ (a price comparison site that helps you find the best price for any book)

My DS was reading up on this after hearing a teacher talk about it. We were in the car on Friday when it was mentioned on the news about bedtime stories, DS turned to me and said 'you never read to me before bed sure you didn't?' I told him that until he was 4 years old I read the gruffallo every night because it was his favourite and the only way I could get to read him a different story first was to promise to read this afterwards. He told me to prove it, now the only way I could prove it was to recite the whole story (including the different voices I used to use) so I started 'a mouse took a walk through the deep, dark woods. A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good ..... Etc'. He let me get to the end before turning round and saying he remembered it, he better remember it, it's etched in my brain for all eternity!!
He hates English but loves reading thank goodness. I have to find his dad's Terry Pratchett books as that's what he was reading to him before he died and DS wants to read the ones with Death as he loved those ones.

What a lovely story SD. It will be good for him to read his Dads books ;)
DS2s favourite book was Big Cook Little Cooks recipe book :o his speech was very delayed but he could grunt every ingredient in that book :D
