    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2626136/Revealed-How-supermarket-price-war-means-actually-pay-MORE-thousands-products-despite-adverts-claiming-falling-prices.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Just looking for the APG site and instead led off to something else that 'might be adverse to some of the supermarkets':rotfl:.

The only reason Sainsbobs has cut that many is because they were a way expensive store on a lot more items beforehand IMO. And, IMO, still are on quite a few things.

As for price wars increasing prices, unfortunately the meal deal items that are now more expensive than the previous mbuy, because of, on several of them, the 20p cut on the original individual price that is now being trumpeted as "cheaper".

Are the Daily Mail completely thick (no answers required!) or do they not understand how supermarket pricing works? The examples given in the chart include Pringles going up to £2.48 and Dolmio - both are prices anyone regularly looking at prices would know have been priced for the offer that is about to follow and anyone paying attention would not pay that price. Next to these items will be other items/flavours/sizes on offer, or not on offer but at a lower price, or the same item will be on offer at another supermarket as the offers tend to rotate between supermarkets. The Dolmio and Pringles may be examples of price establishment, where a high price is set as the RRP/normal price so that they can claim the discount price/sale price/offer price at a later date to comply with the legislation.

And did the Daily Mail or anyone else really expect supermarkets to bring all their prices down? Of course they are going to manipulate it. A's Rollback is a prime example - price goes up for a few weeks/months so that it can then rollback. Every so often you see examples instore where you think that it cannot be right at that price, don't buy for a few weeks (or in A keep buying and match out on the APG, as invariably it is then cheaper elsewhere!) and it will come back down in price as a Rollback.

Quickly add "allegedly" for all the above in case any retailers are reading and take slight!

Hmmm:think::think:. You know, I'd never even considered that wider context:o:o, but thanks - very interesting!:)

As you know I don't like 'em when they're on r'back!:D I prefer them on full individual price and an mbuy glitch on them!:D:D

As regards rotation, yes normal shoppers are creatures of habit and tend to buy the same brands each week - those that don't switch around and check end up paying more!! Or may get an offer price and then pay full next time. (1) Normal shoppers don't plan; i.e. they don't stock up in order to buy at the next offer when that is; (2) They buy 'what they need' i.e. when they run out. In other words, will run out of stuff that is then not on offer and end up paying rip-off prices. And oh, er, (3) mostly don't check their receipt afterwards on the APG.

Yes I expected the supermarkets to bring every price down:D:rotfl::rotfl: - in my naivety and utter dreams:rotfl::rotfl:.

As for the Dolmio at the mo, are some of them still showing the mbuy off on msm? Last time I looked - Monday evening - there was only one showing in 4 for £5. Well, I saw more than one with an mbuy SEL in one of my stores a couple of hours ago. Shame not something I'd use. Dolmio 750g/710g (mostly) are now £1.30 in Morries. So...APG vs Morries, perhaps with appearing comparing Munch Bunch (one of the ones on offer at M;)) and the trigger Munch Bunch item that was confirmed just now.

They also do these flamin' useless 'top-up' shops of two or three items:mad:. Looking at it in a rational way (which of course most people don't:rotfl:), they don't buy much in a very good way at all.

On my glitch fairy list I have:

Toilet rolls, diet coke or diet pepsi and toothpaste  not quite sure where my mountian of toothpaste disappeared to but according to my delight of a husband we are toothpasteless in the garage.

Not a glitch but in some As Shades blue label 9 pack have been still comparing reasonably well AvT - £3v£2.45 (I know, not brilliant but better than nothing and better quality than the normal cheap stuff!). Nicky are reasonable if you are near a Home Bargains.

We are also low on toothpaste - T have vouchers most months for Colgate in their magazine (not this time though :() which combined with their normal offer or matched out on PP can produce a reasonable result - otherwise Poundland/Poundworld have been stocking various Colgate including Total and Sensitive for £1.

I have just read back what I have written and now realise I have encouraged paying real money for these items, sorry :o. I agree, we need a glitch :).

Cod will be difficult at this time of night. I usually get there after they've closed the counter down:( - or I'm in a store that doesn't have a fish counter. Last time I managed to buy the cod though - :rotfl:they wanted me to get the other one at £9/kg!! No I said, I know I what I'm doing. Then they wanted me to get the mbuy on the one I was getting - no, I don't need the mbuy, only one!:) Thank you!:D They weren't having anything that the £11/kg one (or whichever price it is that compares to T way cheaper -:rotfl::rotfl: I don't pay any attention to the price in the store I'm actually buying from, only the competitor's price:rotfl:) worked out much much cheaper than their £9/kg and even told me the £9/kg was a good deal! (No, it isn't!:rotfl:)

I had the Colgate Whitening Pro Relief, with MBG, that compared £3.80 vs £2.52 Morries (sadly that's gone up in price now and I expect been updated on the APG and just expired:().

I was looking to the new cheaper Morries as causing a glitch on the APG and making everything compare to 1p! They should put the whole lot down in my view. Sadly that didn't materialise.
