Help! I think I've been robbed by A&L (£25 "paid item charge") !

    Thanks to all of you! I think I've got a few sides to the story now. I know the title of my post was a bit over the top - I suspect most people visit this site because they feel they have been robbed in some way, directly or indirectly!

    I know it's not as bad a situation as some of the people on this board are in. I think I'll try writing and asking for the justification of charges, and maybe go down the road of reclaiming the charges in the usual way, saying I'll be good in the future if they will only let me have by money back!

    The only moral of the story is to make sure you have cleared cash in your account the day before your payment is due (as most banks' T&Cs stipulate).

    A&L seem particularly prone to hammering customers who dont follow this rule. Other banks may honour payments out as long as cleared funds are paid in on the same day to cover them. I work for Co-op bank and in your case, provided you paid in CASH using your debit card at a branch or a PO the following day (Monday) or moved money from another Co-op account, you would be OK.
