Advice on waiting times

Can someone please tell me how long banks need to sort out your complaint for charges.. When I first sent my letter I got my statements, When I wrote back with a list of my charges the sent a letter sayin they would get back to me in 28 days which they did, with another letter sayin they would get back to me in 8 weeks, which again they did 3 days before the 8 weeks was up ( this was on the 3rd July) this letter said they would get back to me by the 9th of July.. which is Monday. What I would like to know is what do I do if they give me another date for gettin back to me or not get back to me on that date at all. I feel like they are stringing me out..
Any advice would be gratefullly recieved.
Sorry if this is long winded..
Thanks in advance
Sarah

The banks' complaint procedures apparently allow them 8 weeks. You only need to give them that much time though if you intend to use the Financial Ombudsman if they don't come up with the goods. If you are planning a court claim, send them two letters giving them 14 days each, then don't hang around but file the claim with MCOL.

  • I posted a bulletin yesterday and got advice back re; waiting times.. I got a reply from a member called Beattie ( I think) They advised that i write 2 letters giving 14 days to refund the charges, then file a claim..
Can anyone please tell me why he has advised me to write 2 letters giving 14 days ..
I hope this makes sense, because i think I'm begining to confuse my self.. lol
    Many thanks..

If you don't know why, you better read Martin's article again. The first letter is to write and politely ask for your money back. The second letter is telling them that if they don't cough up, you will take them to court. You have to give the bank a certain amount of time, but 28 days altogether are seen as sufficient for a court claim.

  • Many thanks. I actually did read Martins article. I have already sent 2 letters which is why I was confused as to why you were suggesting sending yet another 2. My next step I belived was a letter telling them of my intention to take them to court. Unfortunatly I jus got a little confused by your 1st reply..
Still i'm clear now. thanks again. even tho the tone of your post made me feel like you were talking to me as if i was 12. not 35..

Sorry, but you have no idea how many people coming here haven't even read Martin's article! Btw, I never advised you to send 4 letters, I only ever talked about two letters, you must have misunderstood my post.
