Throwing this question out as I think it's an important one.

Absolutely not!
My last dog was a Pit Bull / Labrador cross, so she was chipped, spayed and had to be muzzled in public. The biggest problem with this is the dog can overheat in warm weather as the muzzle prevents them from panting effectively. As soon as the weather got into the 70's (rare, I know), I couldn't take her for a walk until late evening or night time in case she got heat exhaustion.0 -
In addition, this has reminded me of one occassion when I was walking my dog on a summer's evening.
She was a very good natured, friendly dog, but othis one time, a guy was walking towards us down the street and she stopped dead in her tracks. Her hair went up, she was growling and pulling me backwards away from this guy. It struck me that if this person had bad intentions, my dog wouldn't be able to defend us.0 -

As a general rule, no, dogs should not be muzzled in public.0

Why do you think it's an important question? No, in answer to it, by the way.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

We do hear of a lot of dog attacks, but then when you think about the number of dogs that are friendly and placid, the number of attacks are almost insignificant. Many of the worst attacks we've all read about were when the animals weren't out in public but in their own homes.
There are probably more attacks by scummy scallies than dogs so shall we muzzle them ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Only if humans have to be in handcuffs and muzzled at all times too. Last I checked, humans are worse than any dog. If you want evidence:
