Had a letter through from Halifax regarding PPI

Hi All,
I've had a letter through the post from Halifax saying I had PPI on my loan with them I had a few years ago.
What I don't understand is that I never asked for it to be added to my loan!
I was given a monthly figure with and without and I decided without.
I have sent the letter back to them and they have said they will contact me within 6-8 weeks.
How can they have put the PPI on the loan if the monthly figure didn't go up?
Anyone else had a similar situation?
