Sending emails from iPad

Mum has an iPad which she has used for a while. Since Wednesday evening she has been unable to send emails (yahoo, I think) but can still receive them.
She says she's checked settings etc, and can't find anything in her iPads for Dummies book.
I am 200 miles away and don't have experience with iPads.
Has anyone any ideas or previous experience, that I might pass on to a somewhat non-techy mother second-hand?
Thanks.

Does she have any other email account ((if not then she could always open one as there are many free email providers)? Without doing a few tests like trying out different accounts, it's quite hard to pinpoint the cause of her problem.0

Apparently she has an iCloud account so will try that, thanks.
She says that the emails she wants to send are in her [STRIKE]yahoo [/STRIKE] Hotmail Outbox, but she can't delete them or send them. Very strange.0 -
Apparently she only has an Inbox with iCloud so hasn't worked out how to send emails from that.
She was also just in her Hotmail Trash folder, when a message without name / subject / content appeared, dated 01/01/1970. It then replicated itself 4 more times in there, dated 01/01/2001. After a few minutes they all just disappeared without her doing anything.
She doesn't have any rules set up to auto-direct messages to trash.
This is all very odd. She still can't send the emails presently in her Hotmail Outbox.0
