    The people that lose out are those that dont read letters or dont chase things up.

    I knew my RAC breakdown cover was due but not received any paperwork. So i call them to find out why.
    Send out weeks ago they said. Will send another. That didnt arrive either.
    3rd time lucky.

    About 2 years back i paid my car insurance by debit card over the phone. Checked my bank account almost daily but a week or so later they had still not taken the payment.
    Rather that risk issues i phone them to make them aware that funds have not been taken.

    I could have ignored these situations and then had issues later of cancelled policies or silly premiums.

    I do agree with what you say there. Best to be proactive.

    But I also feel that in each of the above examples you have stated, it appears to be the other party that is primarily at fault. They, being the large company, providing the services in exchange for our hard earned money, should shoulder more of the responsibility especially when the error is on their part. When the humble consumer is at fault, then there should be some leeway in all fairness.
