First step would be to go in the store and have a chat with the manager, try to keep it polite and then go from there.

What does "basically said" mean?

Unfortunately, I fear you may have no right to cancel the order.
Your only hope appears to be some form of compromise.

Can you perhaps compromise by maybe ordering something different rather than asking for a refund?

Whatever you do, you need to do it quickly... before they turn round and say "it's already in production", or something similar.

One should always consider purchases made in store as final, unless you are told, or it's stated, something different.

You need to visit the store and speak to the manager, it's very easy for them to say no over the phone.
