Need techie person/yahoo stopped working

Hi everyone

My yahoo messenger stopped working on the laptop about 2 days ago, I'm wondering if anyone has any bright ideas for getting it functional again.

When I switch off the laptop it's always updating, and sometimes when I switch it on it tries to update and then says it failed and that it's reverting back to old system...or whatever, lol....I don't know if that's got anything to do with it.

Be grateful for your thoughts :-) (can't use the smileys here either, that might be another clue)

What OS are you using (W8?) and is it windows updates that are trying to install?

  • Well this is awful, I don't know! LOL!!

I bought the laptop about 2 years ago, maybe 3 at the most and I know it uses windows, that's it.... ahem.

Everything seems to be working fine apart from yahoo messenger which freezes and sometimes freezes everything else.

The computer is also always trying to update something when I shut down and occasionally when I power up it tries as well. At those times it often says it's reverting back as updates failed....

Don't know if that gives any clues.... :-)

Go into control panel - system- It should tell you what version of Windows you are using...

Vista (if that's what version of Windows it has) had problems with at least one Service Pack screwing up some computers. Can't remember the details, as it's fortunately some time since I had to touch a Vista based machine...:)

    Windows 7 :-/
  • I did go to control panel earlier, I hasten to add, but had no idea where to find the info there.

I guess that means there were one or two brain cells operating...
  • :-(

Now my windows 'start' button has gone to the top right of my screen....weird.
  • Ok so I tried to uninstall messenger and that process froze instantly.

Have you tried a system restore to a time when it was working ok?
You have moved your taskbar from the bottom to the top. Just click on it and drag it back down to the bottom.
